History of the American Basin Council of WatershedsThe American Basin Council of Watersheds (ABCW) has evolved from the collaboration and cooperation of three separate watershed groups focused on the watersheds of western Placer County. As individual entities, these three watershed groups developed watershed resource management plans for the specific watersheds under their purview. The following groups have completed either a Draft Coordinated Resource Management Plan (CRMP) or a Draft Ecosystem Restoration Plan (ERP) that identifies resource issues and begins to develop a strategy to address issues specific to each of these watersheds. The following groups have now folded their individual watershed groups into the American Basin Council of Watersheds:
Each of the watershed groups was made up of individual stakeholders including private citizens, local, state, and federal jurisdictional entities that particpated in the development of the management plans. The Placer County Resource Conservation District (RCD) has been integral to the process, with the support of Placer County, by serving as the communication nexus for each of these groups. The RCD will continue to provide support as well as participate in the new American Basin Council of Watersheds (ABCW) as a stakeholder. The Council began their joint venture with quarterly collaborative meetings that began in Janaury 2005 as the Western Placer Collaborative Watershed Group that met on a quarterly basis to learn more about issues of regional interest. This collaborative group was also supeceded by the American Basin Council of Watersheds. While the individual groups no longer meet, stakeholders will still have the opportunity to address issues specific to their watershed of interest by using a self-organizing subcommittee structure where those stakeholders interested in a particular issue, not appropriate for addressing on a regional basis, can self-organize a committee to address the particular issue at hand. |
