2008 CARCD Speak-off Contest — Placer County Winner!
Congratulations to Clarice Bankus who is the winner of the Placer County RCD portion of the CARCD Speak-Off contest!
The topic this year is The RCD's Role in Wildfire Recovery and Restoration. Clarice's next step is to participate in the 2008 Regional Speak-Off Contest being held in Mariposa County on October 1, 2008!
Our winner is a Junior at Placer High School in Auburn, California. Clarice is a member of the local FFA chapter and is actively involved in local rodeo competition. Good luck to you, Clarice!
2007 CARCD Speak-off Contest — Regional Winner!
The theme for the 2007 California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD) Speak-off Contest is Youth and RCDs: Conservation for the Future. Contestants competed in the Speak-off Contest at the CARCD Central Sierra Regional Fall Meeting on October 5th at Tahoe. The regional finalist will compete statewide at the CARCD Annual Conference and Meeting.
Each contestant's speech revolved around how the contestant's goals and aspirations relate to the RCD mission and activities:
The Placer County Resource Conservation District is dedicated to identifying natural resource management and conservation issues, providing education and technical assistance or direction to private landowners and local entities for implementing programs and plans to conserve and enhance the natural resources of the District while inspiring and mobilizing public conservation awareness and involvement.
Regional results:
- First place: Shawn Sawyer representing Nevada County RCD
- Second place: Shelby Archibeque representing Natural Resources Conservation Service
- Third place: Clarice Bankus representing Placer County RCD
